This paper is preliminary research on the link between the exercise of motherhood and professional careers among women employed in private companies in the Greater Rosario metropolitan area, Argentina. A key element of this research is the subjectivity in the simultaneous exercise of motherhood and the professional employment, which constitutes a typical way of thinking, doing, and feeling of this study group. Using a qualitative methodology and Bourdieu’s habitus theory, I examine this simultaneity or dual presence/absence as a way of being, a predisposition to a set of practices aimed at performing professional work while taking on domestic tasks and o articulating both subfields, with the consequent self-denial. I also draw on anthropology of emotions to explore how this dual presence is felt, learned and expressed in these women’s bodies, while guiding daily practices and career paths, where a sense of being overwhelmed, exhausted and guilty constitutes much of the feeling-thinking corpus of these working mothers.
Este artículo constituye un avance de investigación acerca de la relación entre el ejercicio de la maternidad y el trabajo profesional en mujeres que se emplean en empresas privadas de la región del Gran Rosario, Argentina. Uno de los aspectos relevantes de dicha investigación se refiere al modo en que el ejercicio en simultaneidad de la maternidad y de la profesión configura una subjetividad, es decir, un modo de pensar, hacer y sentir propia de este grupo de estudio. Con una metodología cualitativa y a partir de la teoría del habitus de Bourdieu examino esta simultaneidad o doble presencia/ausencia como una manera de ser, una predisposición a desplegar una serie de prácticas orientadas a ejercer el trabajo profesional, pero asumiendo la responsabilidad de las tareas domésticas y de la articulación de ambos subcampos, con la consecuente renuncia a sí mismas. Luego, desde la antropología de las emociones busco aproximarme al modo en que esta doble presencia es sentida, es decir, aprendida y expresada en los cuerpos de las mujeres, al tiempo que orienta prácticas cotidianas y trayectorias laborales, donde el agobio, el cansancio y la culpa constituyen buena parte del corpus sentipensante de estas madres trabajadoras. |
