Descripción	This article studies apology speech-acts in the Spanish language from the 12th to the 19th century. Using data provided by the Corpus diacrónico del español (CORDE), it analyses the lexical fields to forgive, to blame, to apologise, to excuse, to regret and to be sorry and attempts to classify several thematic areas within the general concept of apologies. It concludes that apologies are linked from the very beginning to Catholicism and from there spread to civil society in a slow and complex process of secularization. El artículo analiza las formas de perdón, arrepentimiento y disculpas en la historia del español mediante ejemplos que proceden del Corpus diacrónico del español (corde). Se indaga asimismo en los campos léxicos referidos de los verbos perdonar, culpar, arrepentir(se), disculpar, excusar, lamentar y sentir desde el siglo xii hasta el xix. El análisis cualitativo llevado a cabo ofrece algunas áreas temáticas determinadas por la presencia de distintas maneras de perdonar o disculpar. Se concluye que muchas de estas fórmulas están vinculadas al cristianismo desde sus orígenes, fuente desde la cual se trasladaron a la sociedad civil en un complejo proceso de secularización de la disculpa.
