Descripción	This paper examines the Third-World turn of Luis Echeverría, especially the diplomatic and political relationship he established with Chilean president Salvador Allende in the context of the Inter-American Cold War. The rapprochement with the Chilean government had a political goal, intended to shore up the domestic regime, which was then undergoing a social and political crisis. However, this rapprochement was only made possible because both the project of Chilean socialism and the radical change in Mexican foreign policy benefited from a favorable international context. This was characterized by a détente between the great powers, as well as by a strengthening of the international position of the Third-World countries in Latin America. El artículo examina el giro tercermundista de Luis Echeverría, especialmente la relación diplomática y política que estableció con el presidente chileno Salvador Allende en el contexto de la Guerra Fría Interamericana. El acercamiento con el gobierno chileno tuvo un uso político destinado reforzar el régimen interno que atravesaba una crisis social y política. Sin embargo, este acercamiento sólo fue posible porque tanto el proyecto de vía chilena al socialismo como el cambio radical en la política exterior mexicana fueron facilitados por un contexto internacional favorable. Éste se caracterizaba por una distensión entre las potencias en paralelo a un fortalecimiento de la posición internacional de los países del Tercer Mundo en América Latina.
