This paper reflects on the memory of Freud in relation to the history of Semitism from the end of the 18th century, as a foundational moment in orientalism, anti-Semitism and the representation of Arabs, Muslims and Jews in the 19th century. It reprises the analysis of Edward Said, who connects it to the ongoing ecumenical liberal attempt to bring Judaism, Christianity and Islam together under the broad umbrella of “Abrahamic religions,” a concept evoked by Jacques Derrida towards the end of his life. Much of the liberal equivalence of these three religions is predicated on an insistence on forgetting their differences, one the histories of Semitism and anti-Semitism constantly recall.
Se reflexiona sobre la memoria de Freud en relación con la historia del semitismo y la semítica desde finales del siglo xviii como momento fundacional del orientalismo, del antisemitismo y de su representación de árabes, musulmanes y judíos en el siglo xix. Se recupera el análisis de Edward Said, quien lo conecta con el intento ecuménico liberal en curso por igualar al judaísmo, al cristianismo y al islamismo bajo el amplio paraguas de lo “abrahámico”, mismo que Jacques Derrida evocó hacia el final de su vida. Gran parte de la igualación liberal de estas tres “religiones” se predica con base en una insistencia por el olvido de su desigualdad que las historias del semitismo y del antisemitismo siempre recuerdan. |
