In contemporary anthropological literature, the use of the term “politics” is widespread, although reflections on its meaning are less common. This is particularly true concerning the everyday use of the term. In this article, in contrast, we focus on the use of the term “politics” among members of various organizations in Chiapas, Mexico. We argue that their ways to use the term reflect a discursive opposition between politics on the one hand, and the people, faith and morals on the other, which shows conceptualizations of politics that are not present in the anthropological literature on the topic. En la literatura antropológica actual, el uso del término “política” es muy extendido, aunque las reflexiones sobre su significado son menos comunes. Eso es particularmente cierto para las reflexiones que parten de los usos cotidianos del término. En este artículo, en contraste, nos enfocamos en los usos del término “política” entre miembros de diversas organizaciones en Chiapas, México. Argumentamos que esos usos reflejan una oposición discursiva entre la política, por un lado, y el pueblo, la fe y la moral, por el otro, lo cual nos muestran conceptualizaciones de la política que no se ven reflejadas en la literatura antropológica sobre el tema. |
