Descripción	This article seeks to contribute to urban studies from the perspective of communication. First, we will explain why this field of knowledge is significant for analyzing current urban processes. Then, we will briefly outline the concepts of habitat and inhabiting before using a case study, to show how socio-urban transformations affect the ways of appropriating and giving territories meaning. Specifically, we will analyze the ways the floods on April 2, 2013 in La Plata, Argentina and the subsequent relocation of a settlement modified the ways of inhabiting of its residents. Este artículo se propone realizar un aporte a los estudios urbanos desde la comunicación. En primer lugar, fundamentaremos por qué este campo del saber es significativo para analizar los procesos urbanos actuales. Luego, abordaremos de forma breve los conceptos de hábitat y habitar, para finalmente indagar, a partir de un estudio de caso, cómo las transformaciones sociourbanas inciden en los modos de apropiarse y dotar de sentidos a los territorios. Específicamente, analizaremos las formas en que las inundaciones del 2 de abril de 2013 acaecidas en La Plata (Argentina) y la consecuente relocalización de un asentamiento, modificaron las maneras de habitar de sus vecinos/as.
