Based on the National Survey of Occupation and Employment 2012-2013, this article examines the association of student employment and its respective labor conditions (wages, working hours and branch of economic activity) with the high school dropout of urban youth in Mexico. The main findings confirm a strong association between student employment and dropping out of school, especially under certain labor conditions such as working more than half time, in the manufacturing industry or in low-paid activities.
Con base en la Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo 2012-2013, el presente artículo examina la asociación del empleo estudiantil y sus respectivas condiciones laborales (salario, jornada laboral y rama de actividad económica) con el abandono escolar de los estudiantes del nivel medio superior que residen en las áreas urbanas de México. Los principales resultados confirman una fuerte asociación entre el empleo estudiantil y el abandono escolar en este nivel educativo, especialmente en ciertas condiciones laborales, como trabajar más de medio tiempo, en la industria manufacturera o en actividades de baja remuneración. |
