Descripción	Historically, Mexico has played a central role in defining the United States' main conceptions on Latin America. Thus, US historiography on Mexico is a very rich source for analyzing their “historical imaginary” of Latin America. One of the main elements of this imaginary is the region's “underdevelopment”. This work, inserted in the debates generated by the “new cultural history”, explores the ways in which Mexico has been represented by some of the main characters of the New Economic History. Históricamente, México ha desempeñado un papel central en definir las concepciones prevalecientes en Estado Unidos acerca de América Latina. Por ello, la historiografía estadounidense en torno a México constituye un lugar privilegiado desde el cual escudriñar la “imaginación histórica” respecto de América Latina. Uno de los elementos constitutivos de ese imaginario ha sido el “atraso” o el “subdesarrollo” de la región. Este trabajo, que se enmarca en los debates generados por la “nueva historia cultural”, explora las formas en que México ha sido representado por algunas figuras emblemáticas de la New Economic History.
