Description
Résumé:This article analyzes little-known aspects of the career of José María Gutiérrez de Estrada. Its primary objective is to reveal the influence on his ideas of the European context in the wake of the revolutions of 1848. Unpublished archival sources reveal Gutiérrez de Estrada’s direct contacts with the Spaniard Juan Donoso Cortés and the Frenchman Louis Veuillot, for whom the Catholic Church and the papacy took on an increasingly central and prominent political role. This article aims to explore the figure of Gutiérrez de Estrada and provide new perspectives on the study of the evolution of monarchist projects for Mexico.
