Description
Summary:This article explains the political ideas of Pablo García Montilla during his years of exile in Mérida and contextualizes them in the intellectual panorama of his times. It is specifically interested in the period in which he was the director of the Literary Institute and president of the Yucatán Public Instruction Council and studies his many essays on humanity, science and politics published between 1879 and 1881 in El Libre Examen, a cutting-edge liberal newspaper that he codirected with Antonio Cisneros and which featured contributions from many of the epoch’s most important liberals. The first part contextualizes García’s ideas in the intellectual panorama of his times and the second explores them in depth.
