Descrição
Resumo:This article, largely based on sources from the General Archive of the Indies, aims to situate the Spanish Crown’s sixteenth century expeditions to the Spice Islands in a timeline that begins with Magellan’s circumnavigation of the world (1519-1522) and ends with Legazpi’s voyage to the Philippines (1564). This is complemented with an analysis of the financing of spice expeditions, concluding with the low profitability of these voyages, whether publicly or privately financed.
