Resumo:This article reveals the complex transformation of agriculture on the Pampas, from small-scale criollo agriculture, which utilized a limited array of tools, was carried out in well-watered environments and supplied local markets, to extensive modern agriculture, which is oriented towards the global market, carried out in frontier regions and utilizes machinery and improved seeds. It centers on wheat production, particularly sowing and tillage techniques, in the 18th and 19th centuries. Through a variety of published and unpublished sources, it examines the challenges and difficulties faced by farmers in the River Plate region, as well as developments at the beginning of the 20th Century.
