Description
Résumé:This paper centers around the proximity between the concepts of education and daily life. The questions of the meaning and function of education overlap with the definitions of what was considered a happy or unhappy life three or four centuries ago.  Comments on reality and beliefs in New Spain stress the profound differences among the various social groups and throughout three centuries. The paper emphasizes the decisive importance of religious instruction as the only kind of education accessible to the entire population.
