| description | The main findings of the survey on sexual behavior and AIDS prevention in the West Indies an Guiana are presented briefly in this paper and are compared with findings from a similar survey conducted in France.The description of the major findings of this survey is of great importance given the current magnitude of the AIDS epidemic in the French Departments of America. In order to prevent its spread, it is of utmost importance to identify behaviors that mayplace individuals at risk of infection. Similarly, it is essential to understand the deep motivations of such behaviors as well as the level of knowledge about prevention methods and frequency of their usage. This paper emphasizes the degree of anareness among individuals regarding risk of infections, changes in behavior, and success made in attaining prevention goals.Lastly, the paper suggests that in order to strengthen the effects of this survey it would be advisable to make clear, as soon as possible, the marked differences between these countries, especially regarding multiple partners among heterosexuals. These differences are based on cultural specificities that were beyond the scope of these surveys and that would require studies of a different nature, such as historical comparisons. |

Este documento resume los principales resultados de la encuesta que se realiza sobre los comportamientos sexuales y la prevención del sida en las Antillas y Guayana, los cuales se comparan con los resultados de la encuesta análoga realizada en Francia.La descripción de los principales hallazgos de esta encuesta es de suma importancia, dada la dimensión que la epidemia del sida ha alcanzado en estos departamentos franceses de América. Porque para prevenir la extensión de ésta, es necesario identificar los comportamientos que pueden ubicar a los individuos en situación de riesgo de contagio. Asimismo, es necesario conocer las razones profundas de dichos comportamientos, el grado de conocimiento de los medios de prevención y la frecuencia con la que éstos se usan. Este documento hace hincapié en la conciencia que los individuos tienen sobre el riesgo de contagiarse, remarca los cambios en las conductas, así como los logros para la prevención.Por último, este trabajo propone que para reforzar y potencializar los efectos de esta encuesta sería conveniente dar cuenta, lo más pronto posible, de las profundas diferencias que existen entre estos países, especialmente en lo que concierne a la multiplicidad de parejas entre los heterosexuales. Estas diferencias radican en especificidades culturales que estaban fuera del alcance de estas encuestas y requerirían de estudios de otra índole, como la histórico-comparativa.
