Resumo:This article focuses on one of the most generalized, polemic processes recorded in major contemporary cities: the development of residential complexes with security that serve as permanent housing for the middle and upper classes of the population. More specifically, the author attempts to use an ethnographic perspective to question the views on these complexes placed within the category of urban fragmentation on the basis of the analysis of a specific example; the emergence of major developments in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires; in this case, an unusual private, peripheral city.
