| Resumo: | This study proposes a periodization for the history of Colombian Spanish. It divides the development of Colombian speech varieties into six historical periods and identifies the most important sociolinguistic conditions that have influenced the conformation of Spanish-speaking communities, since the beginning of the colonial period. No similar proposals have been made in the majority of other Latin American countries. What adds to the interest of the present proposal regarding the history of Colombian Spanish is that it provides a framework for discussion or for further research into the subject. |
