Description
Résumé:This article analyzes the introduction in Mexico  of the determining paradigms for the constitution of Biology as a science, during the late XIX century and the beginnings of the XX century, emphasizing the contribution of Herrera's work in this process. Firstly it is discussed how several concepts, theories and paradigms were introduced in different countries, considering the involvement  of both translation phenomena and circulation of scientific facts. Then the article points out the main participation of Mexican learners in the introduction of the cellular, homeostatic, evolutionary and  heredity  theory.  I highlight the fundamental contribution of Herrera's book Nociones de Biologia (1904)  which was the  first textbook of Biology in Mexico. This book contains a  clear exposition of  the  theories mentioned above.
