Description
Résumé:This work's aim is to assign the sociological contributions of the Classic Ecological School a place in the debate being held nowadays concerning the subject matter of urban sociology. This school of thought is rescued as a first great attempt to create a theorical object in order to tell of the most significative social processes that were held at the modern capitalistic city. Many authors, previous to the ecologists, have thought of the city and its complex problems explaining it as a (sociological, economical, historical, etc.) expression of the own operating laws of the society in which they are inserted. Nevertheless, the ecologists tried to demonstrate, by means of a specific urban theory, that the city itself could explain a whole set of social behavioursthat took place within the ecological dimension. Nowadays some of the ecological paradigms remain though their sociological meanings are not the same. This is mentioned by authors who, like Lefebvre, Harvey, Massey and Giddens have revaluated the spatial dimension of socials processes relocating it at the centre of the sociological discussion to the previous growth rates. If not doing so within a foreseeable future, everything seems to indicate that it will be so, the economical, social and urbanistic situation of the urban population will be increasingly unsustainable.
