In this paper we examine some economic consequences of this growth focusing our attention on two Sub-Saharan countries with important tourist sectors: Cape Verde and Gambia. We examine the factors driving the growth of tourism in these countries and those affecting whether or not this increase can help promote broader economic development and increase the overall welfare of the citizens of these two countries. |

En años recientes, la tasa de crecimiento del turismo en África subsahariana casi ha duplicado la tasa mundial. En este artículo se examinan algunas consecuencias económicas de este crecimiento concentrada la atención en dos de los países subsaharianos con sectores turísticos importantes: Cabo Verde y Gambia. Se examinan los factores que motivan el crecimiento del turismo en estos países y también aquellos que afectan la posibilidad de que este crecimiento promueva el desarrollo económico en un sentido más amplio e incremente el bienestar de la población.
