| description | The objective of this study is to present data pertaining to the figure of María de Estrada Medinilla. She is an author who has been well-known for a long while in the world of literary and historical studies; however, almost nothing is known about her private life. This article presents new information about her, demonstrating that she was born in Guatemala into a family with illustrious roots that go back to conquistadores such as Pedro de Estrada, and even to Bernal Díaz del Castillo. It also shows that she played an outstanding role in the literary revolution that led to the introduction of Gongorism in America. Finally, mention is made of several works of hers which have come to light for the first time. |

El propósito de esta investigación es aportar información relativa a la figura de María de Estrada Medinilla, autora conocida en el panorama de los estudios literarios e históricos desde hace largo tiempo, pero no en lo que toca a su vida privada, ámbito en el que es casi nada lo que se sabe. Por ello, en este trabajo se expondrán los recientes hallazgos al respecto, que nos hablan de una mujer nacida en Guatemala en una familia de ilustre raigambre que parte de conquistadores como Pedro de Estrada o el propio Bernal Díaz del Castillo, y que llegó a ser destacada partícipe de la revolución literaria que supuso la introducción en América del gongorismo. Asimismo, se dará noticia de algunos textos de su autoría, hasta ahora desconocidos.
