Este trabajo es una contribución al estudio del concepto de adorno del cuerpo en el siglo xviii, y para ello toma como fuente principal el léxico relativo al adorno en el Diccionario castellano de ciencias y artes, de Esteban de Terreros. Además del corpus reunido, se hace un análisis desde la perspectiva de la pragmática histórica de algunos términos referidos a joyas con el apoyo de la consulta, fundamentalmente, del CORDE. Asimismo, se constata tanto la herencia de la tradición en la información lexicográfica que aportan los términos como la singularidad de algunas definiciones que en determinados casos son las únicas registradas en los diccionarios del siglo xviii.
