Supported by readings of the works of King Alfonso X, Ramon Llull and Juan Manuel, this study shows how melancholic madness contained within it the impulse to dehumanize the victims of this condition and to expel them from their community and from social life. |

Este estudio explora la conexión entre la melancolía adusta y sus efectos psiquiátricos en la clase monárquica dentro del marco de la literatura medieval ibérica. La epistemología médica medieval exponía que cuando el humor negro se quemaba, los vapores subían a la cabeza, lo que provocaba la desconexión entre la percepción cognitiva y la realidad externa. A partir de las obras del rey Alfonso el Sabio, Ramon Llull y Juan Manuel, este estudio muestra cómo la locura melancólica contenía el fermento para deshumanizar y expulsar de la comunidad y de la vida social a la víctima de esta condición.
