The aim of this paper is to show that this is not the case, that the crucial distinction is the mood alternance, within which the clause with the subjunctive verbal inflexion, as is also well known, relates to the infinitival clause when the complement clause subject does not present switch-reference to the logical subject (see Levy 1983) of its principal clause. |

Como se sabe, en el análisis de las oraciones de complemento en español hallamos dos distinciones formales que caracterizan su gramática: por un lado, el contraste entre oraciones cuyo verbo porta flexión finita o infinitiva, y por otro, el contraste entre oraciones cuyo verbo porta flexión finita de indicativo o de subjuntivo, dándose por sentado que la primera distinción mencionada constituye la diferencia característica o definitoria de las oraciones completivas en español. Con esta base, el objeto del trabajo es mostrar que ése no es el caso, sino que la distinción crucial se constituye a partir de la alternancia de modo, dentro de la cual es la oración con el verbo en subjuntivo la que, como también se sabe, se asocia a la oración con el verbo en infinitivo cuando el sujeto de la completiva no presenta correferencia con el sujeto lógico (en términos de Levy 1983) de su principal.
