| description | This article focuses on the authors of colonial grammars of the quechua language, their motivations, the intended readers, what languages were included and the different methods used to codify the indigenous languages. to this end, we used 16th, 17th and 18th century quechua grammar books, paying special attention to the study of their paratexts. The main conclusions are: Jesuits are predominantly the authors; their works fulfill pedagogical and preaching objectives; the intended readers are other members of the clergy; the authors were concerned with the dialectal varieties; and collaborating with native speakers is a fundamental way of gathering information. |

Este artículo arroja luz sobre quiénes fueron los autores de las gramáticas misioneras del quechua, sus motivaciones al concebirlas, sus destinatarios, qué lenguas estaban implicadas y cuáles fueron sus métodos. Para ello, usamos como corpus de estudio los paratextos de las gramáticas sobre el quechua de los siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII, tradición en que predominó la orden jesuita, cuyas artes, según veremos, procuraban instruir a los responsables de la doctrina en las variedades dialectales de los indígenas, cuya colaboración en tales tareas se erigió en pilar fundamental para refinar los métodos de trabajo utilizados.
