El artículo hace primero algunas consideraciones en torno al apellido Moreno y su adscripción a diversos personajes en un sentido, o estilo, jocoserio en el Quijote y en Quevedo, en relación con la llamada “burla de los linajes”, la etimología del apellido y la compraventa de títulos y honores. Todo ello es ampliado luego a los personajes de Galdós con ese mismo apellido en Fortunata y Jacinta (1886-1887) y en Misericordia (1897), justificando la presencia y pertinencia en estas obras de ese mismo tipo de burla en otro contexto.
