The result of our study is that the functionality of this constructionis due to pragmatic and discoursive reasons, since it is adequate to perceive clearly relevant entities which require more effort for their processing. Moreover, it is more flexible than the strategy of the relative pronoun for the pragmatic and informative treatment of entities according to the speaker’s preferences. |

En este artículo, examinamos la estrategia de relativización del pronombre anafórico en textos del castellano medieval, con el objetivo de determinar qué ventajas puede ofrecer respecto de la estrategia característica para que el hablante elija ocasionalmente esta alternativa. El estudio revela que la funcionalidad de la construcción se sitúa en el ámbito pragmático-discursivo, ya que resulta adecuada para asegurar la percepción de entidades relevantes que presentan mayor dificultad de procesamiento y, además, se muestra más flexible que la estrategia del pronombre relativo para un tratamiento pragmático e informativo de las entidades acorde con los intereses del hablante.
