| Résumé: | In this paper we analyze the anaphoric pronoun relativization strategy in medieval Castilian texts, with the objective of determining the advantages that explain why the speaker occasionally prefers this choice of relativization. The result of our study is that the functionality of this constructionis due to pragmatic and discoursive reasons, since it is adequate to perceive clearly relevant entities which require more effort for their processing. Moreover, it is more flexible than the strategy of the relative pronoun for the pragmatic and informative treatment of entities according to the speaker’s preferences. |
