總結:Compañeros de viaje (1959), Jaime Gil de Biedma’s first book of poems, consists of three seemingly heterogeneous parts, which include poems belonging to very different movements: symbolist introspection in one extreme and committed social poetry in another. The purpose of the present article is to demonstrate that this heterogeneity is deliberate; that by including poems with such different traits in a single volume Gil de Biedma has attempted to describe an important evolution in his career as a poet: an evolution which passes from an experience centered on the first person singular (the “I”) to one totally given over to the first person plural (the “we”). The article also hopes to demonstrate how the poet, anticipating the title he was to give to his collected poetry, uses the different persons of the verb to underline this evolution.
