Descripción
Sumario:In this paper, the author studies, from a pragmatic point of view, thedevelopment of the ambiguity between the spiritual and the materialdimensions in La Regenta (The Regent’s wife) by Leopoldo Alas,“Clarín”. Since the tower of the Cathedral is a disemic symbol onlyin the first part of the story, don Fermín de Pas remains ambiguousuntil the end of the work. Through the comparative description ofthe Cathedral tower and don Fermín, the author combines semanticallythe physical with the spiritual dimensions. The contrast givesframework to the entire Clarín’s story, founding the base of a fiercecritique to the Church as well.
