This study considersthis phenomenon and proposes that the appearance of the space ofexile is intimately linked to a change in the author’s aesthetic. MaxAub abandons the realism to which he had strictly adhered when hewent into exile in the 1940s, and instead, he recovers methods thatare characteristic of the historical avant-garde to which he had belonged.In particular, the short story “Censorship” allows us to analyze asystem of veiled references; this system eschews direct reference butnonetheless uses literary allusion to point to a determined geographical,political, and social space. |

Este trabajo analiza la representación de lo mexicano en el cuento“La censura” de Max Aub, perteneciente al volumen Cuentos mexicanos(con pilón), publicado en 1959. Ese libro, en su mayor parte, fue leídoa la luz de la estética realista; sin embargo, algunos de esos cuentos nose dejan clasificar bajo esa perspectiva. “La rama”, “La censura”, “Lagran guerra” son narraciones que no parecen hablar del México queanuncia el título del libro. Así, nos encontramos ante el problemáticocaso de unos cuentos “mexicanos” que no refieren a México. Aquí seconsidera el fenómeno y se propone que la aparición del espacio delexilio está íntimamente vinculada con el cambio estético en la narrativadel autor. Max Aub abandona la adscripción estricta al realismoque había propuesto al iniciar el exilio, en la década del cuarenta, yrecupera, a la vez, procedimientos propios de la vanguardia históricaen la que había participado. En particular, el caso del cuento “La censura”permite analizar un modo velado de la referencia. Un modo enel que emerge un decir que desestima la referencia directa y que, pormedio de la alusión literaria, apunta no obstante a un espacio geográfico,político y social determinado.
