Este trabajo constituye un estudio diacrónico cuantitativo de la formaun, desde su valor cardinal hasta su empleo como artículo indefinido. Con base en un corpus compuesto por textos de los siglos XIII al XVII,se analizan los principales cambios que un sufrió a lo largo de este período,en particular, su uso como marcador de indefinidos inespecíficos y su introducción en contextos genéricos y predicados. Asimismo,se demuestra que el desarrollo del determinante indefinido unos es,con algunas restricciones, paralelo al de un, no sólo en el aumento de su frecuencia, sino también en su incorporación a nuevos contextos.
