Este trabajo se propone revisar desde dos nuevas perspectivas las acusaciones de plagio vertidas por Mateo Alemán contra el continuador apócrifo del Guzmán de Alfarache. En primer lugar, replanteamos esta cuestión desde el punto de vista de la ficción literaria desarrollada por Alemán en la Segunda parte de su obra, con especial atención a la función desempeñada por los personajes de Sayavedra y Mateo Luján. En segundo lugar, se analiza una serie de ilustraciones contenidas en la edición príncipe del Guzmán apócrifo, cuyas inquietantes relaciones con la Segunda parte de Alemán nos plantean numerosas incógnitas.
