Fecha de aceptación:6 de diciembre de 2010.El topónimo Patagonia deriva del nombre con que Magallanes denominó genéricamente a los aborígenes de gran estatura que habitaron la región más austral de Sudamérica: patagones. Sabemos que probablemente fueron llamados así retomando el nombre de un personaje de la novela de caballerías, Primaleón, impresa con anterioridad al viaje de Magallanes, llamado precisamente Patagón. Presentamos, como nueva hipótesis, que quizás exista una relación entre el topónimo Patagonia y la región que en tiempos de Troya se denominara Paphlagonia, actual región al norte de Turquía, junto al Mar Negro.
