El artículo reconstruye algunas narrativas vinculadas a la familia Moctezuma en Venezuela durante el siglo XVII y parte del XVIII. Su presencia en los relatos regionales, en el mito fundacional de la nación y en trayectos de vida y cotidianidad, son abordados desde su vigencia en la memoria familiar, en el aporte discursivo en los cronistas de la primera mitad del siglo XX y en el recorrido de trayectos familiares a partir de los fondos documentales Encomiendas, Tierras y Escribanías. El artículo ofrece una triple perspectiva para el estudio de la familia Moctezuma y su presencia en la provincia de Venezuela en ese periodo.
