Description
Summary:This article has the objective of explaining the origin and circulation of certain stamps and paintings with the likeness of King Fernando VII. Through a comparative analysis of examples of illustrations, engravings and paintings that circulated between Spain and New Spain during the first two years of the crisis of the Spanish monarchy, as well as of a series of contemporary testimonies, it will demonstrate the presence of a pictorial imaginary, its propagandistic use and the contrasting ideas that these images, in accordance with the loyalist discourse of the time, could provoke in public opinion.
