Description
Résumé:This article addresses the origins, motivations and decline of the Guatemalan Patriotic Union, a forgotten chapter in the history of Guatemalan revolutionary exiles in Mexico. At the same time, this article constitutes one part of a larger theme, that of the painful exile following the 1954 coup, which dispersed many social leaders, union organizers, teachers and students –and not just Guatemalans– to various countries throughout Latin America during the first stage of the Cold War. This article is based on primary sources that are largely found in public and private repositories across Latin America.
