Textos autobiográficos o egodocumentos sirven para obtener información sobre actores individuales y las circunstancias históricas en que están insertados por medio de testimonios que ellos mismo han dejado. La administración compleja del Imperio español ha engendrado una riqueza extraordinaria de diferentes tipos de egodocumentos, escritos por diferentes actores como españoles, indígenas, mestizos, mulatos y extranjeros, tanto hombres como mujeres, que proporcionan al historiador informaciones valiosas para definir y analizar a los protagonistas de la sociedad colonial. Ante todo, contamos con relaciones de méritos, informaciones genealógicas y procesos de la Inquisición, formando estos últimos la base del presente ensayo.
