Los objetivos del trabajo han sido realizar una revisión y comparación del conocimiento construido en torno al desarrollo de las clases trabajadoras del campo en el norte mexicano entre el porfiriato y el periodo formativo del Estado posrevolucionario y, proponer una síntesis en torno a este conocimiento y sus autores. Mediante la comparación se reconocen investigadores que han estudiado directamente y con cierto grado de profundidad las formas de trabajo en el campo, otros que han sumado a este conocimiento el correspondiente a las formas organizativas y de lucha de los trabajadores mexicanos tanto en el norte del país como en el sur de Estados Unidos.
