| description | The process of individualizing the land went down many different paths in those districts of nineteenth century Mexico that had an Indigenous population. This article will analyze the process of redistributing land in Tacámbaro, Michoacán, based on the laws in force in that district in the nineteenth century, which tried to divide up the commons of “Indigenous communities.” This process can be seen through the land registry books. Dividing up collective goods had certain fiscal characteristics, through a property tax that encouraged the establishment of private property and the distribution of lands to the community’s residents. The peoples that made up the Tacámbaro District began to redistribute their lands in the 1830s and, in 1905, the existence of common lands to be divided up continued to be mentioned. This article observes different moments in time, legislation, internal conflicts and the role of land commissions and agents in order to understand these events that played out for nearly 70 years. |

Los procesos de individualización de la tierra fueron por diversos caminos en las entidades republicanas del México decimonónico que contaban con poblaciones indígenas. En este caso se analizará el proceso del reparto de tierras en el Distrito de Tacámbaro, Michoacán, con base en las leyes que se publicaron en dicha entidad durante el siglo xix, las que pretendían que las “comunidades indígenas” repartieran sus bienes comunales. Proceso que se verá a través de los llamados libros de “Hijuelas”. Dividir los bienes colectivos tenía características fiscales a través de la “contribución predial”, impulsar la creación de propietarios privados y distribuir las tierras entre los propios habitantes de las comunidades. Los pueblos que compusieron el Distrito de Tacámbaro comenzaron sus repartos desde la década de los 1830 y aun en 1905 se seguía mencionando la existencia de terrenos comunes que deberían repartirse, por lo que se observaran los momentos, la legislación, los conflictos internos, el papel de las comisiones y apoderados con el fin de comprender los acontecimientos que se dieron por casi 70 años.
