| Resumo: | This article analyzes the early years of the Argentinean and Mexican Red Crosses, starting in 1864, under the coordination of the International Committee of the Red Cross, up through 1923, when the League of Red Cross Societies organized the First Pan-American Red Cross Conference. It compares the ties forged through medical humanitarianism, as reflected in the constitution of the national societies in both countries and connected to gender, professional and sectorial participation, resolutions taken during crisis moments, conflicts and political instability. The sources, both published and unpublished, include manuals and official reports by the Red Crosses of Argentina, Mexico and Spain, as well as the Archive du Comité International de la Croix Rouge (Geneva).
