It centers on wheat production, particularly sowing and tillage techniques, in the 18th and 19th centuries. Through a variety of published and unpublished sources, it examines the challenges and difficulties faced by farmers in the River Plate region, as well as developments at the beginning of the 20th Century. Este artículo expone la compleja evolución del proceso de transformación de la agricultura pampeana, desde la agricultura criolla, a muy pequeña escala, con instrumentos limitados, desarrollada en ambientes húmedos, y centrada en el abasto a mercados locales, a la agricultura moderna, orientada hacia el mercado mundial, extensiva, llevada a cabo en áreas de frontera, y con incorporación de maquinaria y semillas mejoradas. El estudio se centra sólo en la producción de trigo y sus segmentos de siembra y labranza, para los siglos XVIII y XIX. A partir de variedad de fuentes editadas e inéditas, da cuenta de los retos y dificultades que enfrentó la agricultura en el área rioplatense en ese periodo, así como sus resultados hasta inicios del siglo XX.
