This second aspect is examined in terms of its press coverage, which allows us to observe how this date became part of Mexico’s historic memory, as well as which issues in the country’s political life referred back to Cuauhtemoc and his time and the interpretations these were given by different political and social actors. Este artículo analiza la conmemoración en honor a Cuauhtémoc que se estableció en la Ciudad de México cada 21 de agosto, desde su instauración en 1887 y hasta el final del porfiriato en 1910. El estudio de esta conmemoración se contempla tanto en su aspecto ritual —en tanto que acto público que tenía lugar en las calles de la ciudad— como en el discursivo. Este segundo aspecto se aborda sobre todo por medio de las notas que aparecieron en la prensa con motivo de la efeméride, lo que nos permite observar, por una parte, cómo esta fecha se fue convirtiendo en un lugar de la memoria histórica mexicana y, por otra, qué temas de la vida política del país se activaron en torno a este personaje y su época y qué interpretación recibieron por parte de los distintos actores políticos y sociales.
