The article focuses on the demographic impact of the epidemic, connecting its repercussions with the unhealthy conditions then prevailing in the country's capital, which could largely be attributed to poverty and the interruption of many sanitary measures due to budgetary shortfalls, armed conflict and changes of government. The article draws on sources of information from the historical archives of the Health Secretariat and the Mexico City government, as well as contemporary press reports and the bulletins issued by the Superior Health Council. This article aims to contribute to the historiography of the period from the perspective of social and demographic history. |

En este trabajo estudiamos el impacto de la epidemia de tifo de 1915-1916 en la ciudad de México. Examinamos su origen y propagación, enmarcándolo en un contexto de gran vulnerabilidad social y política originada a raíz de la caída de Victoriano Huerta y la toma de la ciudad por las distintas fuerzas revolucionarias. El estudio se adentra en el impacto demográfico de la epidemia. Relacionamos sus repercusiones con las condiciones de insalubridad que imperaban en la capital del país, las cuales en gran medida fueron atribuidos a la pobreza, así como a la interrupción de muchas obras de saneamiento debido a la falta de presupuesto, los conflictos armados y cambios de gobierno. El estudio incorpora varias fuentes de información del Archivo Histórico de la Secretaría de Salud, del Archivo Histórico del Distrito Federal, de la prensa y de los Boletines del Consejo Superior de Salubridad. El ensayo pretende contribuir a la historiografía del periodo desde la perspectiva de la historia social y demográfica.
