Description
Summary:This work deals with the hardships created inMexicoby the 1943 bad corn crop. Within the context of World War II, shortage and high costs were more deeply felt, considering the difficulty of buying corn from other countries. The research underlines some aspects of national corn production and consumption, as well as government attempts to counter the country's situation, as seen through the dealings of the combined council for regional economy inDurango, which is important because this state had a considerable corn surplus. This work also reveals how speculators and smuggling between the states limited (federal, state, and municipal) government actions, and the relevance of the Comarca Lagunera (Torreón) in managing Durango's corn surplus.
