Description
Summary:This work studies the urban and architectural transformation witnessed in Bogotá after the first centenary of Colombia's independence in 1910, which was celebrated in a city that would undergo overwhelming demographic and physical growth during the twentieth century.  Colombia’s economic and political situation at the turn  of the century is described, as well as the place chosen for the commemorative exhibition of the 1910 centennial and the city’s architecture at the moment.  Then the different architectural structures used in the exhibition, their authors and contents  are described,  as well as the uses they received later on and their final fate. By way of conclusion, the author makes a balance of the exhibition’s possible urban and architectural implications for Bogotá’s development during the twentieth century.
