Sumario:This work analyzes the rationale of the centennial celebration and shows how its landmarks become anchored in collective memory. The author puts forward and examines the centenary's intellectual  landscape regarding  three moments:  1) everything concerning  the celebration  of April  19th , 1810, including  its meaning and relevance; 2) everything concerning the First Congress of Venezuelan Municipalities, which allowed a balance of the municipality's historical, political, and social situation, that is, an inventory of the country's problems;  3) everything  con- cerning the celebration  of July 11th, 1811. The article concludes by analyzing  the text and context  of the new historiographical constructions.
