The CMR appears in historiography as a Mexican anti-fascist institution, but this research reveals that it was conceived, implemented, financed, and supervised by the American Jewish Committee (AJC), a Jewish social action organization based in the United States, with the aim of fighting against racist and anti-Semitic prejudices, creating a friendly climate towards Jewish-refugee immigration, and quelling anti-American feelings in Mexico. The AJC's involvement was kept a secret for Mexicans in general and for the Jewish community in Mexico. Drawing on archives in Mexico and the United States, this work details the reasons that led to its organization, describes its implementation, explains why the AJC's involvement was kept a secret, and why the CMR failed to prosper and eventually disappeared. |

El presente artículo reconstruye el origen, la organización, el desenvolvimiento y la desaparición del Comité Mexicano contra el Racismo (CMR), que fue activo en la ciudad de México de 1944 a 1946, dentro del contexto del estudio de las relaciones entre una destacada organización judía de Estados Unidos y una institución judía mexicana.El CMR aparece en la historiografía como una entidad antifascista de México, pero en este ensayo se demuestra que el CMR fue ideado, implementado, financiado y supervisado por el American Jewish Committee (AJC), una organización de acción social judía de los Estados Unidos, con el propósito de combatir los prejuicios racistas y antisemitas, crear un clima propicio para la inmigración de refugiados judíos y luchar contra los sentimientos antiestadounidenses en México. La participación del AJC se mantuvo oculta para los mexicanos en general, así como para la comunidad judía de México. En base a archivos de México y Estados Unidos, se detallan los motivos que llevaron a su organización, se describe su establecimiento, se explica por qué la participación del AJC fue secreta, y por qué el CMR no prosperó y eventualmente dejó de existir a pocos años de su creación.
