| description | This text studies the articulation of identity carried out by Paraguayan intellectuals after the war against the Triple Alliance (1864-1870) and in the eve of celebrating the centennial of their independence (1811). The author shows how a previous identity, based on a concept of mestizo race, but white in its own way, superior to the rest of the continent and allowing the soldiers’ heroism in war, was transformed into a mainly political use of mixed races as the foundations of a strong nation. |

El texto trabaja la articulación identitaria que realizó la intelectualidad paraguaya después de la guerra contra la Triple Alianza (1864-1870) y en los albores de la celebración del Centenario de la independencia (1811). Se pone de manifiesto cómo de un concepto de raza mestiza, pero blanca, sui géneris, superior a las del resto del continente, que permitió el heroísmo del soldado en la guerra, se pasa a un uso eminentemente político del mestizaje como cimentador de un Estado fuerte, unipersonal.
