| Résumé: | This text studies the articulation of identity carried out by Paraguayan intellectuals after the war against the Triple Alliance (1864-1870) and in the eve of celebrating the centennial of their independence (1811). The author shows how a previous identity, based on a concept of mestizo race, but white in its own way, superior to the rest of the continent and allowing the soldiers’ heroism in war, was transformed into a mainly political use of mixed races as the foundations of a strong nation. |
