Indispensable para todos los que deseen entender la nueva lengua revolucionaria ["New Philosophical-Democratic Vocabulary. Indispensable for All Those Who Wish to Understand the New Revolutionary Language"], by the Jesuit Lorenzo Ignazio Thjulen (Gothenburg, 1746-Bologna, 1833), as well as the impact it had on the press and pamphlet-writing of the time. 1834 was a crucial year in the political history of the First Federal Republic, for it saw the confrontation between Valentín Gómez Farías' reform project and the anti-liberal reaction against it. Thjulen's dictionary, conceived and written within the Catholic counter-Enlightenment tradition, provided rationales for those challenging Gómez Farías' disentitling and anti-corporate project. Thjulen countered the language of revolution with the language of counter-Enlightenment, so the dissemination of his ideas in 1834 Mexico allows us to further understand the doctrinal and political tensions between liberals, conservatives, and Catholics during the first post-viceregal decades. |

En este artículo se reconstruye el proceso de reedición, en el México de 1834, del raro diccionario Nuevo vocabulario filosófico-democrático. Indispensable para todos los que deseen entender la nueva lengua revolucionaria (1799), del jesuita Lorenzo Ignazio Thjulen (Göteborg, 1746-Bolonia, 1833), y la resonancia que el mismo alcanzó en la prensa y la panfletografía de entonces. 1834 fue un año crucial en la historia política de la primera República Federal, durante el cual se produjo la confrontación entre el proyecto reformista de Valentín Gómez Farías y la reacción antiliberal contra el mismo. El diccionario de Thjulen, concebido y escrito desde la tradición contrailustrada católica, ofreció argumentos a quienes se enfrentaron al proyecto desamortizador y anticorporativo de Gómez Farías. A la lengua de la revolución, Thjulen contrapuso la lengua de la contrailustración, por lo que la difusión de sus ideas en el México de 1834 permite avanzar en el estudio de las tensiones doctrinales y políticas entre liberales, conservadores y católicos en las primeras décadas postvirreinales.
